phrase is used is in:
Revelation
13:9If any man
<1536> have <2192> (5719) an ear <3775>, let him
hear <191> (5657);immediately following the section
where the beast makes war with the saints and overcomes
them!
I was once teaching on
the Feast of Trumpets in a church in New Zealand.Seated in the
congregation was a young man who three weeks previously had received
Christ into his life as his personal Saviour. At the conclusion of
the meeting, this excitable young convert approached me and
congratulated me on the
teaching.
"Wow, " he said, "that
was really terrific.""Wow, was it?" I responded."Yes," he retorted.
"It sounded just like Billy Graham.""Great," I said, "did
you understand what I was saying?""No," he said,
enthusiastically, "I don't know what you said, but it was
terrific."
This illustrates
perfectly the admonition of the Lord Jesus. The message
sounded.The
young man heard. He did not understand.
There are many in this
day who possess a measure of understanding.Once partially
enlightened they want to traverse the planet telling everybody all
they know.
This picture is
graphically portrayed in two sections of Scripture. This first is found
in:
2 Samuel
18:19-33Then said
<0559> (8804) Ahimaaz <0290> the son <01121> of
Zadok <06659>, Let me now run <07323>(8799), and bear
<01319> <00> the king <04428> tidings
<01319> (8762), how that the LORD <03068> hath
avenged<08199>
(8804) him of his enemies <03027> <0341> (8802).
{avenged…: Heb. judged him from the hand,
etc}
20
And Joab <03097> said
<0559> (8799) unto him, Thou <0376> shalt not bear
tidings <01309> this day <03117> , but thou shalt bear
tidings <01319> (8765) another <0312> day <03117>:
but this day <03117> thou shalt bear no tidings
<01319>(8762),
because the king’s <04428> son <01121> is dead
<04191> (8804). {bear tidings this: Heb. be a man of
tidings, etc}
21Then said <0559>
(8799) Joab <03097> to Cushi <03569>, Go <03212>
(8798) tell <05046>(8685) the king <04428> what thou hast seen
<07200> (8804). And Cushi <03569> bowed <07812>
(8691) himself unto Joab <03097>, and ran <07323>
(8799).
22
Then said <0559> (8799)
Ahimaaz <0290> the son <01121> of Zadok <06659>
yet again <03254>(8686) to Joab <03097>, But howsoever <04100>,
let me, I pray thee, also run <07323> (8799) after
<0310> Cushi <03569>. And Joab <03097> said
<0559> (8799), Wherefore wilt thou run <07323> (8801),
my son <01121>, seeing that thou hast no tidings <01309>
ready <04672> (8802)? {howsoever: Heb. be what may}{ready: or, convenient}
23But howsoever, said
he, let me run <07323> (8799). And he said <0559>
(8799) unto him, Run <07323>(8798). Then Ahimaaz
<0290> ran <07323> (8799) by the way <01870> of
the plain <03603>, and overran <05674> (8799)Cushi
<03569>.
24
And David <01732> sat
<03427> (8802) between the two <08147> gates
<08179>: and the watchman <06822>(8802) went up <03212>
(8799) to the roof <01406> over the gate <08179> unto
the wall <02346>, and lifted up <05375>(8799) his eyes
<05869>, and looked <07200> (8799), and behold a man
<0376> running <07323> (8801)
alone.
25 And the watchman
<06822> (8802) cried <07121> (8799), and told
<05046> (8686) the king <04428> . And the king
<04428> said <0559> (8799), If he be alone,
there is tidings <01309> in his mouth <06310>.
And he came <03212> (8799) apace <01980> (8800), and
drew near <07131>.
26And the watchman
<06822> (8802) saw <07200> (8799) another <0312>
man <0376> running <07323>(8801): and the watchman
<06822> (8802) called <07121> (8799) unto the porter
<07778>, and said <0559>(8799), Behold
another man <0376> running <07323> (8801) alone.
And the king <04428> said <0559> (8799), He also
bringeth tidings <01319>
(8764).
27
And the watchman
<06822> (8802) said <0559> (8799), Me thinketh
<07200> (8802) the running<04794> of the
foremost <07223> is like the running <04794> of Ahimaaz
<0290> the son <01121> of Zadok <06659>. And the
king<04428> said
<0559> (8799), He is a good <02896> man
<0376>, and cometh <0935> (8799) with good
<02896>tidings
<01309>. {Me…: Heb. I see the
running}
28And Ahimaaz
<0290> called <07121> (8799), and said <0559>
(8799) unto the king <04428>, All is well <07965>. And
he fell down <07812> (8691) to the earth <0776> upon his
face <0639> before the king <04428>, and said<0559> (8799), Blessed
<01288> (8803) be the LORD <03068> thy God
<0430>, which hath delivered up <05462>(8765) the men <0582>
that lifted up <05375> (8804) their hand <03027> against
my lord <0113> the king <04428>. {All…: or, Peace be to thee:
Heb. Peace}{delivered…: Heb. shut
up}
29
And the king <04428>
said <0559> (8799), Is the young man <05288> Absalom
<053> safe <07965>? And Ahimaaz <0290> answered
<0559> (8799), When Joab <03097> sent <07971>
(8800) the king’s <04428> servant <05650> , and
me thy servant <05650>, I saw <07200> (8804) a
great <01419> tumult <01995>, but I knew
<03045>(8804)
not what it was. {Is…: Heb. Is there
peace?}
30
And the king <04428>
said <0559> (8799) unto him, Turn aside <05437>
(8798), and stand<03320> (8690) here <03541>. And he turned aside
<05437> (8735), and stood still <05975>
(8799).
31And, behold, Cushi
<03569> came <0935> (8802); and Cushi <03569> said
<0559> (8799), Tidings<01319> (8691), my lord <0113> the king
<04428>: for the LORD <03068> hath avenged <08199>
(8804) thee this day<03117> of all them <03027> that rose up
<06965> (8801) against thee. {Tidings: Heb. Tidings is
brought}
32And the king <04428>
said <0559> (8799) unto Cushi <03569>, Is the young man
<05288> Absalom <053>safe <07965>? And
Cushi <03569> answered <0559> (8799), The enemies
<0341> (8802) of my lord <0113> the king<04428>, and all that
rise <06965> (8804) against thee to do thee hurt
<07451>, be as that young man <05288>
is.
33And the king
<04428> was much moved <07264> (8799), and went up
<05927> (8799) to the chamber <05944>over the gate <08179>,
and wept <01058> (8799): and as he went <03212> (8800),
thus he said <0559> (8804), O my son <01121> Absalom
<053>, my son <01121>, my son <01121> Absalom
<053>! would God I had died <04191> (8800) for thee
<05414> (8799), O Absalom <053>, my son <01121>,
my son <01121>!
Three times did Ahimaaz
push Joab to let him run.Joab could not grant
the request.Ahimaaz had not seen Absalom hanging in the oak tree by his
hair, with three darts sunk deeply into his heart. He had not had a
personal encounter with the message :hence, he nothing to
say.However,
youthful enthusiasm prevailed and Ahimaaz ran.He ran without the
message.How
effectively this parallels much of the activity (never mistake
activity for achievement) of the charismatic movement of this
day.New converts
having recently received the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour,
long to run the world with an eagerness to share their new found
joy.In this
complex world in which we live, the message must entail more than,
receives Jesus as your personal Saviour and all of your problems
will then be over.
For man, with the
launching into the world of the Spirit, they might only just
beginning.
Age gave way to youth in
the race to the king.Ahimaaz' lucky break had come. His one great
opportunity had arrived. Here it was.His ministry was now in operation and brought him before
great men.There
was only one problem.Ahimaaz had opened his own doors. He was pushy.A champion never
pushes.He was
not prepared to wait for the time he would fulfill his calling. He was not prepared to
wait.He was not
prepared.There,
at the peak of his opportunity, he had nothing to
say!
Proverbs
18:16A man’s <0120> gift
<04976> maketh room <07337> (8686) for him, and bringeth <05148>
(8686) him before <06440> great men
<01419>.
2 Samuel
18:29And the king <04428>
said <0559> (8799), Is the young man <05288> Absalom <053> safe <07965>? And Ahimaaz
<0290> answered <0559> (8799), When Joab <03097>
sent <07971> (8800) the king’s <04428> servant
<05650> , and me thy servant <05650>, I saw <07200>
(8804) a great <01419> tumult <01995>, but I knew <03045>(8804) not what it
was. {Is…: Heb. Is there
peace?}
I saw a great
tumult.I knew
not what it was.
How like many
today
The phrase, God is moving
by His Spirit, is often heard in Christian circles. When asked, "Where is
He moving to," they have not the slightest
idea.
Likewise, The River of
God is Flowing. When confronted with, " Where is the River of God flowing
to,"they stand at a
complete loss.
This is What God is
Saying, is yet another."Why is God saying What He is saying?""I haven't got the
foggiest idea!"

Luke
15:11-24And <1161>
he said <2036> (5627), A certain <5100> man <444>
had <2192> (5707) two <1417> sons
<5207>:
12And <2532>
the younger <3501> of them <846> said <2036>
(5627) to his father <3962>, Father <3962>, give
<1325> (5628) me <3427> the portion <3313> of
goods <3776> that falleth <1911> (5723)to me. And
<2532> he divided <1244> (5627) unto them <846>
his living <979>.
13And <2532> not
<3756> many <4183> days <2250> after <3326>
the younger <3501> son <5207>gathered <4863>
<0> all <537> together <4863> (5631), and took his
journey <589> (5656) into <1519>a far <3117> country
<5561>, and <2532> there <1563> wasted
<1287> (5656) his <846> substance <3776>with riotous <811>
living <2198> (5723).
14And <1161> when he
<846> had spent <1159> (5660) all <3956>, there
arose <1096> (5633) a mighty <2478> famine
<3042> in <2596> that <1565> land <5561>;
and <2532> he <846> began <756>(5662) to be in want
<5302> (5745).
15
And <2532> he went
<4198> (5679) and joined himself <2853> (5681) to
<1520> a citizen <4177>of that <1565> country
<5561>; and <2532> he sent <3992> (5656) him
<846> into <1519> his <846>fields <68> to feed
<1006> (5721) swine
<5519>.
16And <2532> he would
fain <1937> (5707) have filled <1072> (5658) his
<846> belly <2836>with <575> the husks <2769> that <3739> the
swine <5519> did eat <2068> (5707): and <2532> no
man <3762>gave
<1325> (5707) unto him
<846>.
17And <1161> when he
came <2064> (5631) to <1519> himself <1438>, he
said <2036> (5627) , How many <4214> hired servants
<3407> of my <3450> father’s <3962> have bread
<740> enough and to spare <4052> (5719) , and
<1161> I <1473> perish <622> (5731) with hunger
<3042>!
18I will arise <450>
(5631) and go <4198> (5695) to <4314> my <3450>
father <3962>, and <2532> will say <2046> (5692)
unto him <846>, Father <3962>, I have sinned <264>
(5627) against <1519>heaven <3772>, and <2532> before <1799>
thee <4675>,
19And <2532> am
<1510> (5748) no more <3765> worthy <514> to be
called <2564> (5683) thy <4675> son <5207>: make
<4160> (5657) me <3165> as <5613> one <1520>
of thy <4675> hired servants<3407>.
20
And <2532> he
arose <450> (5631), and came <2064> (5627) to
<4314> his <1438> father <3962>. But <1161>
when he <846> was yet <2089> a great way <3112>
off <568> (5723), his <846> father <3962> saw
<1492> (5627) him <846>, and <2532> had compassion
<4697> (5675), and <2532> ran <5143>(5631), and fell
<1968> (5627) on <1909> his <846> neck
<5137>, and <2532> kissed <2705>(5656) him
<846>.
21
And <1161> the
son <5207> said <2036> (5627) unto him <846>,
Father <3962>, I have sinned<264> (5627) against
<1519> heaven <3772>, and <2532> in <1799>
<0> thy <4675> sight <1799>, and <2532> am
<1510> (5748) no more <3765> worthy <514> to be
called <2564> (5683) thy <4675> son <5207>
.
22
But <1161> the father
<3962> said <2036> (5627) to <4314> his
<846> servants <1401>, Bring forth <1627> (5657)
the best <4413> robe <4749>, and <2532> put
it on <1746> (5657) him <846> ; and <2532>
put <1325> (5628) a ring <1146> on <1519> his
<846> hand <5495>, and <2532> shoes<5266> on <1519>
his feet <4228>:
23And <2532> bring
hither <5342> (5660) the fatted <4618> calf
<3448>, and kill <2380> (5657)it; and <2532>
let us eat <5315> (5631), and be merry <2165>
(5686):
24For <3754> this
<3778> my <3450> son <5207> was <2258>
(5713) dead <3498>, and<2532> is alive again <326> (5656); <2532>
he was <2258> (5713) lost <622> (5756), and <2532>
is found <2147> (5681). And <2532> they began
<756> (5662) to be merry <2165>
(5745).
